Installation guide

Install in a few minutes

Phones install from the store as usual. Here is what to expect on a computer.

Windows

  1. Pick your file

Most PCs need x64. Not sure? Open Settings → System → About and read System type.

  2. Run the installer

Double-click the MSI. If Windows shows “Windows protected your PC”, click More info, check that the publisher is CellHubs, then Run anyway.

  3. Allow administrator access once

The installer adds a background service and the GreenTunnel network adapter, so every app on the PC is covered.

  4. Turn it on

Open GreenTunnel VPN from the Start menu and click Turn on. The app updates itself from then on.

Linux

Snap (Ubuntu, recommended)

Search for “GreenTunnel VPN” in the App Center, or run:

sudo snap install greentunnel-vpn
sudo snap connect greentunnel-vpn:network-control
sudo snap connect greentunnel-vpn:network-observe
sudo snap restart greentunnel-vpn.daemon

The connect lines let GreenTunnel create its network interface. Snap keeps it up to date.

.deb (Debian, Ubuntu, Mint)

sudo apt install ./greentunnel_0.1.0_amd64.deb

.rpm (Fedora)

sudo dnf install ./greentunnel-0.1.0-1.x86_64.rpm

Keep the ./ in front of the file name. To update, install the new version the same way.

Then

  1. Open GreenTunnel VPN from your app menu and click Turn on.
  2. The background service starts on its own. Check it with systemctl status greentunnel.
  3. On GNOME, the tray icon needs the AppIndicator extension. The app works without it.
